Who We Are

Seneca IM and its predecessors have managed multi-asset funds since 2002. The firm has a fund management team of four specialists who focus exclusively on multi-asset value investing. Further directors and staff focus on management, marketing, compliance and operational roles.

Our investment team is experienced, knowledgeable and well-resourced. The fund managers are Richard Parfect, Mark Wright, Tom Delic and Gary Moglione. They share responsibility for the performance of our funds and segregated mandates. Each member of the team has specific research responsibilities, which feed into each of the funds we manage, and have specific responsibilities in relation to the management of particular funds.

In addition to the depth and experience of our team, investors can take comfort from the fact that the interests of the Seneca IM are directly aligned with theirs. Together we hold a substantial minority share in the business and invest personally in the funds we manage.

Richard applies our value driven approach to his specific focus on specialist assets for Seneca IM.  Richard is a Fellow of the CISI and was a founder of Seneca IM in 2002. He previously worked as a UK equity analyst at Merseyside Pension Fund and started his career at Neilson Cobbold.

Richard holds a commercial pilot’s license and is a qualified instructor. He competes in triathlons and enjoys time with his family.

Mark is responsible for UK equity research across Seneca IM’s investment mandates. He began his career at Seneca IM after graduating from University of York with a BSc degree in Economics.

Mark is a CFA Charter holder and an accredited member of the CFA Institute. He likes to escape to the gym, regularly plays football and wishes he could be more frequently found relaxing on an idyllic beach somewhere.

Tom is responsible for our third party fund selection alongside Gary Moglione. He has worked in the investment industry since 2009 after graduating from the University of Liverpool with a first class degree in Mathematics with Finance. After beginning his career as an investment analyst for Royal Liver Asset Managers, he later joined Seneca IM in October 2011.

During his spare time, Tom can be found spending time with his family, at the gym or attending Stoke City FC games.

Gary joined Seneca IM in April 2018 and is responsible for our third party fund selection alongside Tom Delic. He has worked in the investment industry since 1999 with a major portion of this specialising in fund selection both on a fund of funds and a multi-manager basis. He has previously worked as a fund manager for Royal Liver Asset Management where he managed two of their multi-manager funds (UK Equity and Global Equity). He then joined the multi-asset team at Pioneer Investment Management (later to be taken over by Amundi Asset Management) to manage equity assets in their funds of fund range.

Outside of the office, Gary enjoys travelling, spending time with his family and watching Liverpool FC.

Gabby joined Seneca in October 2019 with over 4 years’ experience in the investment industry. Upon successful completion of a Business Administration Apprenticeship, she then studied towards and completed the CISI Investment Operations Certificate and Investment Advice Diploma. In her previous role at Quilter Cheviot, Gabby worked as a Trainee Investment Manager assisting in the management of portfolios for private clients, charities and trusts.

In her spare time, she enjoys reading, travelling and spending time with her friends and family.

Matt assists Mark Wright in UK equity research. He joined Seneca IM as an intern in 2019 and subsequently worked part-time throughout his last year of studies, graduating from Liverpool John Moores University with BA (Hons) degree in Business with Finance.

During his spare time, Matt enjoys keeping fit, travelling and spending time with friends and family.

Ferdi has more than 30 years’ experience in the life insurance, investment and pension funds industries in the UK, Europe and South Africa.  He held various senior executive positions during his tenure at Momentum and its listed parent company, the Momentum Metropolitan Group. These responsibilities included heading up Momentum’s individual life insurance and pension fund administration businesses, as well as a consumer banking unit. He has been the CEO of Momentum Global Investment Management for the past 10 years.

He holds BSc (Mathematics) and BSc Honours (Mathematical Statistics) degrees, an AMP (Insead) and a postgraduate Management Diploma (Henley, Reading University).

Jeanette Marais joined Momentum Metropolitan Holdings Limited on 1 March 2018, as Deputy CEO. Jeanette was previously an executive director at Allan Gray and has extensive knowledge of the retail investments market, intermediary distribution and operational aspects of retail asset management. Jeanette started her career at Momentum in 1990 to 1999, responsible for sales and marketing for the group and Momentum Administration Services. She filled Executive level positions at Stanlib and Old Mutual before joining Allan Gray in 2009. As the Deputy CEO of Momentum Metropolitan Holdings Limited, her portfolio includes being the CEO of Momentum Investments and taking care of the Momentum Metropolitan Holdings Limited marketing and branding department and Distribution, Marais is one of South Africa’s most senior women in financial services.

Jonathan joined Momentum in 2003 as a management accountant when the finance team was established. As Momentum and FirstRand Bank expanded its operations in the UK, Jonathan was promoted to Financial Controller of the central finance function in 2007. Following the unbundling of Momentum and FirstRand in October 2010, Jonathan joined Momentum Global Investment Management Limited as Chief Finance Officer. Jonathan has a wide ranging remit which includes financial management (including budgets & forecasting); group, regulatory and statutory reporting; cash & balance sheet management; M&A activities; taxation and payroll. In 2019 Jonathan was promoted to Chief Finance & Operations Officer.

Director


David joined the board of Seneca IM as chief executive in April 2015, he then transitioned to Non-Executive Director in 2020. He has previously worked in management, business development and investment roles at Momentum, Midas Capital, Cazenove and Flemings among others.

David graduated in Modern History from Wadham College, Oxford in 1986.  He is a member of the Liverpool University Pension Fund Advisory Committee, and is Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society.  His interests include Asian art, history and dogs.

Elaine was appointed to the board in September 2014 as operations director and company secretary having been compliance and money laundering reporting officer with Seneca IM since 2007. She began her career in personal tax and trust accounting, working for a number of major accountancy practices in Liverpool. She later went on to work for Rathbones, Unilever and Tilney Investment Management, before being appointed vice president for Investment Services at Pershing Securities.

Elaine is qualified as a chartered management accountant. Outside of work Elaine enjoys eating, sleeping, cars and holidays.

Steve joined Seneca IM in October 2016, having held a number of senior management and business development roles within the insurance industry.

Steve is a Chartered member of the Insurance Institute, with more than 25 years’ experience working in the insurance and investment markets primarily with intermediaries.  When he isn’t working, Steve likes to spend time with his family and is a keen golfer.

Helen joined Seneca IM in April 2017. In her previous role at Premier Asset Management, she had specific responsibility for business growth within the retail adviser market.

Helen has over 10 years’ experience in financial services and has also held successful roles at Friends Life, Just Retirement and with AIG in Melbourne.

In her spare time, Helen has a passion for travel and different cultures. She also likes to spend time with her family and is a season ticket holder at Manchester United.

In her previous role at Barclays UK, Lucy was part of the Barclays Premier Relationship Team, specialising in client experience and development of colleagues.

When not working, Lucy enjoys travelling. She also enjoys keeping fit and spending time with her family.

Michael joins Seneca with over 2 years’ experience in the financial services industry.

In his previous role at Barclays UK, Micheal’s main focus was to obtain positive outcomes for clients as a Premier Relationship Manager.

Within his spare time Michael regularly attends Everton FC games and has a season ticket in the Gwladys street end at Goodison Park. He also enjoys running and playing football.

When not at work, Emmy enjoys spending time with her family, travelling and catching up on box sets.

After successfully completing a Sales & Marketing Apprenticeship, Kieran joined Seneca IM as a Marketing & Communications Assistant back in 2018. At the start of 2020, he was promoted to Marketing & Communications Executive and is now responsible for developing and maintaining brand awareness. In his spare time, Kieran enjoys playing his guitar and being outdoors.

Ian has been with Seneca IM since 2005, after graduating from The University of Liverpool with a B.A degree in Geography. Ian is responsible for fund operations and assists with compliance monitoring for the company.

Ian is a big Liverpool FC fan and also enjoys music, video games and films.

David joined Seneca IM in April 2016 as a senior member of the Operations, Finance and Compliance Team, with more than 15 years’ experience in financial, management and fund accounting. He spent five years with Greenpark Capital prior to their takeover by Stepstone Group and joined Seneca from Bibby Financial Services.

When not at work, David likes to play badminton and is a fan of TT, looking for an opportunity to return to the Isle of Man TT at some point.

Darron has joined Senena IM as Compliance Manager, with 12 years’ experience in the alternative asset sector. Darron joined from SL Investment Management applying a risk based focus to compliance. He has experience with regulators in Europe and around the globe, including BaFin, the Irish Regulator and the SEC. Managing compliance with amongst others AIFMD, MiFID, OFT and FCA.

In his spare time Darron enjoys the outdoors, hiking, camping and walking the dogs.
